General Information about SpeedREG

SpeedREG is the recommended utility for entering Baptism, Marriage and Burial information from church registers for the FreeREG project.

The SpeedREG software was written by Peter Cox and is no lonnger under development or supported.

This program was developed in QuickBASIC (a DOS programming language) to see if productivity gains could be achieved by using "smart input" rules. If the system proves popular it may be redeveloped in Visual Basic for Windows, this will however be an expensive and time consuming commitment.

SpeedREG offers:-

In the screen shot below, you can see that this is the 6,698th entry in this batch. YKS, Rotherham, and All Saints have been entered by the program automatically. I typed in the date as 23 jan 1845, and it made the J upper case, and as I start to type "Catharine" I have got as far as entering "ca" and the pick list has sprung into life. All I need do now is press "7" to complete it. I just need to enter the surname and age (and that will accept "infant" or "3y5m" too), "daughter of" in the Relationship field, father's and mother's names (pick lists work on those too!), and mother's surname if different. In "abode" the word "Conisborough" has been entered previously, so I'll be able to type "c1" and have the pick list put it in for me. The [Tab] key will jump me to the next record ready to enter the burial date. The program even keeps a note of how long you have spent entering data.
