County Coordinators

If you want to volunteer to take on the task for a coordinating a county, having considered the responsibilities given below, then contact the Country Coordinator.

If you want to volunteer to provide data, then contact the appropriate County Coordinator for that county.

Also see: Project Coordination Structure

Responsibilities of a County Coordinator include:

  1. To recruit transcribers.
  2. To arrange for data for transcription.
  3. To identify and solicit contributions of existing transcriptions.
  4. To correspond with volunteers providing data for your county.
  5. To handle queries from volunteers (although we hope most questions will go to the mailing list) If in doubt then refer to one of the project coordinators, or forward the query to the FREEREG-L mailing list, and we will try to invent an answer ;-)
  6. To keep tabs on who is doing what, and which parishes have been done
  7. To inform the person updating the county web pages when new parish data has been added to the data base so that details can be added
  8. To gather data files from volunteers and pass them on to the data coordinator for uploading if they are not sent in direct. If data files are not in our standard format ready to be incorporated into the database, to pass them to one of the data editing volunteers.
  9. To coordinate activities with other County Coordinators on the FREEREG-CORE mailing list and to keep the Country Coordinators informed of Country-wide issues
  10. To inform the Project Manager of problems and/or improvements with the FreeREG search engine.
  11. To inform the Website Editor of improvements to the information on the website.

We hope that enquiries from volunteers will start to come direct to you, but any that we receive will be forwarded onto you. Basically, in the first instance, it is to save me having to reply to every e-mail that I get from potential volunteers.

It might also be a good idea to get used to what is already answered on the web pages, and point people there.

That will save you a lot of time too when answering enquiries.

Additional information to assist County Coordinators, once appointed, is available from the Project Manager..

If you are interested in coordinating a county which has not yet been allocated, contact the Project Manager
