Web Page Editing for FreeREG Web Pages

The majority of the web pages are maintained by the project manager and webmaster. Should anyone wish to become responsible for any aspect of the website they are asked to contact the project manager.

County coordinators are encouraged to maintain the content of their own county webpage following the basic layout adopted by FreeREG. (Unless deemed otherwise by the Country Coordinator) The county pages are incorporated into the website by either the project manager oe webmaster. Managing your county pages is quite straightforward.

The files are managed in Notepad; they are text files but with an html or shtml extension.
You make the changes with Notepad and look at what you have done using your browser.
Either the project manager or webmaster can provide you with the basic current content for your county.
The layouts vary slightly but the principles remains exactly the same.
Each line in the a county page is made up from the same building block that starts with the <TR> and ends with the </TR> shown below.
Each column in the row is made up of the content between the pair <TD> </TD> within that block.
The % in the TD tells the browser how much of the page width to use for the column. The small tells the browser to print small characters.
The only complex part is in that first column where we tell the Browser there is a link to an external webpage using the piece between the <A> </A>. In this case we are linking to the specific parish on the Genuki website.
What ever you put between the <small> </small> in any column will be displayed.
To add another line simply copy the block between the <TR>and the </TR>. and paste it between the lines you want the line to appear at. Just make sure the paste is done between the end of one block and the start of the next. i.e. Paste after the </TR> and before the next <TR>.

<TR>
<TD WIDTH="10%" > <small><A HREF="http://www.origins.org.uk/genuki/NFK/places/w/wymondham/">Wymondham</A></small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="10%" > <small>Virgin Mary and St Thomas à Becket</small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="5%" > <small><b>Registers and ATs available for transcription</b></small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="8%" ><small>1615-1635</small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="8%" > <small>1636-1845</small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="9%" > <small>Kirk Dawson</small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="8%" > <small>1615-1630</small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="8%" > <small></small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="9%" > <small>Kirk Dawson</small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="8%" > <small></small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="8%" > <small>1813-1845</small></TD>
<TD WIDTH="9%" > <small>Lee Adamson Ringk</small></TD>
</TR>

It is very simple and easy.
